True canadian data sovereignty

Indigenous-led, Arctic Cooled Data Infrastructure for Canada's North IceFox Data Center Launching 2028

IceFox Data Center is a planned hydro-powered modular data center campus on K'atlodeeche First Nation lands in the Northwest Territories, built to deliver sovereign cloud, colocation, and secure connectivity while keeping Canadian data in Canada.
Designed for Northern conditions and long-term national resilience, IceFox combines modular data center units, low-carbon hydroelectric power, Arctic cooling, and a dedicated high-capacity fiber backbone to create a new digital foundation for government, enterprises, telecom operators, and indigenous Nations.
What is icefox?
IceFox is an Indigenous-led, modular data center platform being developed in the Northwest Territories, Canada, to provide secure, scalable, and locally governed digital infrastructure. Designed as a water-free data center, IceFox will not rely on water for cooling or heat rejection. Instead, the facility will use advanced air-cooling systems and the North’s naturally cold climate to maintain efficient and reliable operations without consuming local water resources.
IceFox will support colocation, sovereign cloud services, artificial intelligence computing, secure data storage, disaster recovery, and private network connectivity for organizations requiring Canadian control over critical digital assets. By combining hydroelectric power, water-free cooling, direct fiber connectivity, and Indigenous governance, IceFox will deliver resilient, environmentally responsible digital infrastructure while supporting economic development and digital sovereignty across Northern Canada.
Why icefox matters
Many Canadian organizations rely on foreign-owned cloud platforms that may be subject to external laws, creating concerns around privacy, control, and data sovereignty.
IceFox is a Canadian, Indigenous-led alternative located on Indigenous land, powered in the North, and governed in Canada. It will keep critical data, economic value, and decision-making closer to home while creating skilled northern jobs in data center operations, network management, cybersecurity, technical support, and infrastructure maintenance.

Q&A

What IceFox Is - and What It Is Not

Is IceFox a Hyperscale Data Center?

No. IceFox is not a hyperscale campus operated by a large global technology company. It is a Canadian, Indigenous-led data center designed to provide secure colocation, cloud infrastructure, data storage, disaster recovery, private connectivity, and selected AI-computing services.

What type of data center is IceFox?

IceFox is a modular, traditional data center designed for controlled growth. Capacity can be added in stages as customer demand increases, avoiding the environmental and infrastructure impacts associated with building an oversized facility all at once.

Does IceFox use water for cooling?

No. IceFox is designed to use air-based cooling rather than water-dependent cooling systems. The facility will take advantage of the North’s naturally cold climate to support efficient year-round operations while preserving local water resources.

Will the project create local employment?

Yes. IceFox is intended to create long-term Northern and Indigenous careers over the next three decades, including positions in data center operations, network management, cybersecurity, electrical systems, equipment maintenance, technical support, facility security, and administration.

Built for sovereignty, scale and resilience

Scalable Platform

IceFox is designed to grow from initial modular deployments into a long-term regional campus with capacity for colocation, cloud, AI and sovereign storage services. Its modular approach allows customers and partners to deploy what they need now and scale as demand grows.

Strategic Northern Location

Positioned in Hay River and K'atlodeeche First region, IceFox is being developed to support Northern operation, Arctic resilience, and critical infrastructure requirements. Its location strengthens the case for secure regional hosting closer to Northern cooling, assets, and public-sector users.

Clean, Efficient Design

IceFox is planned as a hydro-powered campus that uses Canada’s cold climate and snow-cooling concepts to reduce energy demand and environmental footprint. This lowers operating costs while supporting low-carbon digital infrastructure for the next generation of AI and cloud workloads.

Future Ready

The platform is being designed for secure hosting, private infrastructure, modern cloud services, and AI/HPC-ready environments, including high-density compute use cases. IceFox is intended to give governments, enterprises, and Indigenous Nations a sovereign digital platform that can evolve with rapidly changing compute demands.

About IceFox
IceFox Data Center is a next-generation, Indigenous-led digital infrastructure project being developed in the Northwest Territories. Designed for modular growth, secure hosting, cloud services, AI workloads, and private network connectivity, IceFox will use energy-efficient air cooling without water-based cooling, helping minimize its environmental footprint.
The project is also intended to create skilled northern and Indigenous employment for the next three decades, including jobs in data center operations, network management, cybersecurity, electrical systems, maintenance, security, and technical support. More than a data center, IceFox will strengthen digital sovereignty, build regional capacity, and keep ownership, opportunity, and economic value in Canadian and Indigenous hands.

  • Our Mission

To deliver secure, scalable, and sovereign digital infrastructure designed for Northern conditions, long-term regional growth, and Indigenous-led economic development.
  • Our Vision

To help shape the future of Northern connectivity and data center capacity through locally rooted, high-value infrastructure that strengthens Canada’s digital resilience from the North outward.
Fiber network and connectivity.
IceFox will be directly connected to KatloTech Fiber Ltd.’s planned 329 km, 288-strand fiber optic backbone between High Level, Alberta and the K'atlodeeche / Hay River region of the Northwest Territories. Public project messaging also describes this route as a Ciena-powered, multi-terabit corridor intended to support large-scale data movement, low-latency access, and long-term network growth in the North. This connection is designed to support secure data transport, scalable bandwidth, cloud services, colocation, AI workloads, and sovereign communications infrastructure for Northern and national use cases.

Key Fiber Network Features:

High Capacity Backbone- A planned 288-strand route designed to support IceFox operations and future optical expansion across Northern Canada.

Lit and Dark Fiber Services - Flexible leasing options for customers requiring dedicated capacity, private connectivity, or managed transport services.

Low Latency Regional Connectivity - A direct Northern transport path intended to improve performance for cloud access, enterprise workloads, and inter-regional data movement.

Built for Scalable Optical Growth- The optical design supports modular transport architecture using Flex ILS and GX Series platforms for long-term scalability.

Ready for Cloud, AI, and Data Services- The network is being designed to support secure hosting, AI infrastructure, colocation, storage, and mission-critical public-sector traffic.
